Describe the event, occasion, or awareness campaign including history and background, community significance, impact and purpose of promotion.

If this illumination request is for a specific event, please provide details on the event itself including venue or location, number of people in attendance, and recurrence.
Explain how this event, awareness campaign, or occasion meets one or more of the following criteria:
  1. Event of national and international significance
  2. Local festival or community event that is taking place in Vancouver
  3. Local, national, or international awareness issue that builds community or is related to community health issues. (Health-related requests must be aligned with Health Canada’s Calendar of Health Promotion Days or it can be reasonably determined that the cause/event/activity could significantly impact the community.)
  4. Event or occasion contributes to the economic, social, and cultural fabric of Vancouver
Under criteria 4, we accept requests from consulates and community organizations to celebrate national days and independence day celebrations for countries with which Canada has official diplomatic relations.

We reserve the right to decline requests from countries where there is political unrest or conflict. The decision to illuminate for a national day or independence day neither implies nor expresses support for the politics of that country.
