Career Centre Benchmarking Survey on Operational Practices

Survey Instructions and Consent Information

SURVEY CLOSING DEADLINE:   March 1, 2019

Thank you for your interest in completing the Career Centre Benchmarking Survey on Operational Practices. This research is very important to better understand the career services field across Canada. This survey is being conducted by Dr. Christine Sjolander in collaboration with Brainstorm Strategy Group, a Canadian-based consulting and research firm and  the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE). A long-time career practitioner, Christine also serves as the Vice-President, Business Operations, Canada for the City University of Seattle.  This study is part of a research study that has been approved by City University of Seattle Institutional Review Board.

For the purposes of this survey, we use the term "career centre" to represent any unit, department or area dedicated the provision of career development services to students on campus. We are using a broad definition of career development services to include co-op, internship and other experiential learning programs, preparation programs for post-graduate employment, career related advisement and counseling services and services and job / employment search functions.

The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of how career centres across Canada are operating.  The data collected will be compared with a similar study, conducted by the same primary investigator in 2016, to identify changes in operational practices and other current trends.

Because of its comprehensive nature, this study will take 30 - 40 minutes to complete. You may save your responses and return to complete it at a later time. Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and you may exit the survey at anytime without submitting your responses for inclusion in the study. You are free to decline to answer any particular question you do not wish to answer for any reason. While all questions in the survey are optional, please answer them as completely as possible so that we can build a comprehensive picture of the Canadian post-secondary career development landscape.

All responses will be kept confidential and will not be identified by individual. Responses will be compiled together and analyzed and reported as a group. Individual responses will be anonymized before inclusion in any future reports or publication. Only individuals who specifically provide consent within survey that they are willing to be re-contacted may be re-contacted by the researcher. No other participants will be re-contacted after the close of the survey.  All data from the survey will be kept locked and password protected by the researcher. As this is a longitudinal study, data will be kept for comparison purposes for up to 10 years. At the end of that time all data of whatever nature will be permanently destroyed.

This study has been designated as “minimal risk” to you as a participant as no anticipated harm will come to you through participation. Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and you may exit the survey at any time without submitting your responses for inclusion in the study. Refusal to participate or withdrawal/dropout after agreeing to participate will not have an adverse effect or consequences on the participants..
