Review of Department of Veterans' Affairs pharmaceutical services and programs

Your input is important

Nous has been engaged by Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) to review current key pharmaceutical programs and services. The aim of this review is to provide recommendations to align key DVA pharmaceutical services and programs with industry standards while preserving the quality of services provided to veterans and their families.
The three areas of review are:
  • The Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS) Authority Phone Line, which provides a prior approval service for access to concessional prices on certain pharmaceutical items;
  • The Dose Administration Aid program (DAA), which provides a ‘blister pack’ service to aid medicines management; and
  • The RPBS and the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Reference Committee (RPRC), which determine the pharmaceutical items veterans and their families can access.
The RPBS is a scheme that facilitates access to the supply of certain subsidised medicines, including all items listed on the PBS Schedule, items listed on the RPBS Schedule and some items not listed on either Schedule.

Nous welcomes information regarding any of the three areas of review listed above, and provides the following questions to guide responses. Please only respond to those questions relevant to you.
  1. What are your views and experience of the RPBS Authority Phone Line? What works well and what could be improved?
  2. What are your views and experience of obtaining access for veterans and their families to items not listed on either the PBS or RPBS Schedule, or in circumstances where the item is listed but not all criteria are met?
  3. What are your views and experience of the listing process associated with the RPBS? What works well and what could be improved?
  4. What are your views and experience of the DAA program? What works well and what could be improved?
  5. Is there any additional information you would like to share?
