At the end of the session participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of risk factors for ICU acquired weakness
• Differentiate critical illness neuropathy from critical illness myopathy
• Formulate a strategy to both prevent and treat ICU acquired weakness

Rehabilitation in Sarcopenia, Speaker: Walter Frontera

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• Describe important demographic changes in recent decades
• Identify functional consequences of aging
• Explain the contribution of skeletal muscle to the loss of function in elderly
• Define and describe sarcopenia
• Identify and prescribe the type of exercise that is safe and effective for older men and women

The presentation will focus on the aging of the population and the functional consequences of the aging process. The specific role of changes in muscle mass and function (sarcopenia) and the diagnosis of this condition will be discussed in detail.
