Application for Paid On-Call Firefighter

Squamish Fire Rescue is looking for positive, energetic and community minded citizens to join our team of dedicated paid on-call firefighters. If you are a permanent Squamish resident, interested in joining a highly trained and an immensely dedicated team, we would like to hear from you. 

Squamish Fire Rescue is a composite department of paid on-call and career firefighters and an industry leader in both training standards and customer service. Applicants will be invited to participate in a selection process involving interviews as well as physical and mechanical aptitude testing. 

As an applicant, you agree to provide to the District of Squamish, in confidence, a Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record check.  The selection process will assist us in evaluating your past and present work history and your ability to take direction in a team environment. We are looking for personal attributes that complement the department goals. Squamish Fire Rescue reserves the right to disqualify any person from the hiring process if the department believes the candidate’s demeanour may compromise the department’s professional standard of duty and care. 

Successful candidates will begin an intense six month training program starting in January and will be trained in accordance with the Justice Institute of BC Fire Academy module certification system. Training sessions will be held weekly and will include drills that are physically demanding. Some home study is also required. In exchange for your time and commitment, you will be rewarded with strong community support, the knowledge that you are making a real difference by protecting our residents and visitors, and a truly amazing sense of accomplishment and pride.
